The Grain Club is organizing an expert panel as part of the Global Forum for Food and Agriculture (GFFA), which will take place in Berlin from 17 to 20 January 2024 under the guiding theme "Food Systems of the Future - Together for a World Without Hunger". The GFFA is the leading international conference on key issues in the global agriculture and food sector.

Description of the expert panel

Functioning agricultural supply chains are decisive for global food security. The current crises clearly show how fragile our commodity flows are. At the same time, the cultivation of agricultural crops still results in the clearing of rainforests in many countries of origin. Climate crisis, biodiversity loss and human rights violations in the agricultural sector show how important it is to work towards sustainable supply chains all over the world. Global food security and sustainability must therefore be interlinked. The EU Regulation on deforestation-free products (EUDR) is a key project in this respect. The ambitious obligations also present enormous challenges for all stakeholders. This requires substantial joint efforts – a cooperation of all stakeholders. How can this succeed? Where do we stand today with regard to its implementation? What hurdles do we have to overcome in the time remaining before the EUDR enters into force on 30 December 2024 in order to ensure that this Regulation has a successful start? These questions will be discussed with the audience and stakeholders at the expert panel. In doing so, we will include the perspectives of smallholder farmers, NGOs and multi-stakeholder partnerships, as well as the views of market participants, policymakers and administrations. Documentation via podcast is planned.
